Evaluation

1.In what ways does your media product use forms’ or conventions of real media products?

My Main Task Front Cover Annotations

My Main Task Contents Page Annotations

My Main Task Double Page Spread Annotations

2. How does your media product represent particular social groups?

I decided to use the "mise-en-scene" photograph of a bedroom because because it connotes and implies that "normal" such as my target audience can become "indie rockers" too, as some famous artists/bands start off their career by practising in their bedrooms. I photographed Cathryn holding a guitar and pulling an aggressive face because indie/rock artists tend to be "moody" and rebelious, and nearly every artist/band have a guitar player. I also intended to attract my audience by wording my lexis in an interesting way. For example I used a play of words when I said, "Plus 8 page poster pull out". I did this to attract my readers attention.

3. What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The Media institution I have chosen to distribute my magazine is IPC Media. This is because IPC is a huge institution with a massive income each year. IPC is the publisher of NME magazine, which is a magazine with a very similar target audience to my own. Therefore I know that IPC is an excellent producer that sells magazines by the millions every year. Also, as IPC are such a successful institution, choosing them as my publisher would lead to more advertisement opportunities, due to the fact that IPC is a wealthy and large industry.

An example of IPC publishing is Indie/Rock magazine NME.

4. Who would be the audience for your media product?

For example:

Name: Jack Brislen
Age: 17
Hobbies: Hanging out with friends, listening to music.
Favourite band: Coldplay
Favourite music magazine: NME

A Video Taken From Youtube Which Contains My Ideal Target Audience

I chose to upload this video taken from Youtube.com due to the fact that it includes males and females of various ages videoing themselves at the Kerrang Tour 2009. This implies that these males/females are interested in music that Kerrang advertises, which is of the Indie/Rock genre; the same genre as my magazine.

5. How did you attract/address your audience?

6. What have you learnt from technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Below I have uploaded a screengrab of the tools I used on Photoshop, and explained what I used them for.

Below I have uploaded a screengrab of the tools I used on Quark, and explained how I used them.

7. Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Preliminary Task

Actual Task

As you can see from my designs, my creativity and software skills have improved significantly. I have grown used to using Photoshop and Quark and so have developed my skills involved when using them. After months of researching several types of magazines I have become more aware of the codes and conventions of; front covers, contents pages and double page spreads.
